HISTORY

In our traverse round the Sub-Region we behold several young talents with no sense of direction as regards their dream of playing football. There are many that have experienced frustration as a result of their love for the game because of shattered dreams. Despite some few Football Academy around the West African Sub-region, there seems not to be enough to meet with the yearnings of thousands of would-be Professional Footballers. The Handsworth United Academy – West Africa was set up as a truly imaginative and important initiative to meet the needs of many youth that has taken Football as a career.

We are committed to youth development. PDR Sports intend through the Academy, to provide the opportunity for so many youngsters to develop their talent.

The intended size and scope of the Academy is evidence enough through the partnership of Handsworth United FC UK in their willingness to support the aspiration of the promoters of Handsworth United Academy – West Africa.

The Academy’s goal is to develop and grow into not only the largest and most significant football Academy in West Africa but possibly the African Continent and probably the whole World!

Imparting & equipping aspiring Football Potentials from the continent with requisite skills that will set them apart in the Football profession globally.

NURTURING TALENT

Football in West Africa is a lifestyle, passion and obsession. With a population of over of 200 million in the west coast, the number one sporting activity in most country in West Africa is football, therefore it is at the centre of all sporting event. It appears almost every youngster is seeking the opportunity to improve their football skills and there are over 60 million under the age of 18 in the sub-region, hence making it a veritable ground of raising potential world class Footballers.

The criteria for membership not only include evidence of special talent and attributes such as balance and speed but also attitude. Students of the academy must have a determined focus towards learning, practicing and accepting discipline through regular attendance, good behaviour and a positive response to Coaches instructions.

As part of our focus the Handsworth United Academy – West Africa intends offering introductory courses for interested youngsters across many locations within West Africa with the most naturally talented and recognized students.

PERSONAL SKILLS

Through training and playing in a disciplined environment, each student will acquire skills that are far more important than football ability alone - responsibility, humility, self-confidence, teamwork, inter-personal skills giving rise to a positive attitude and disposition.

FOOTBALL SKILLS

Handsworth United Academy – West Africa intends to provide the most talented and skilled youngsters with the opportunity to progress their career within football, such students will also contribute to the future success of Football within the Sub-region.

ACCREDITED COACHING TEAM

Vital to any success in football is the quality of coaching. At Handsworth United Academy – West Africa, we are focused at raising dynamic coaches that can compete favourably with their counterpart anywhere in the world.

The Academy's coaching staff will be personally dedicated to their role of converting talent to skills and enabling the students to develop and better enjoy the World's No 1 sport.

The coaches will be constantly exposed to various professional courses and coaching clinics, which will help to improve their knowledge of the game and ensure that they impart the right level of discipline in the students.

OUR FOOTBALL TEAM

We have two teams – the Senior team and a Junior team. The age group for the Senior team is 16 – 22 years old boys, while that of the junior team is 7 – 15 years. The junior team is further broken down into 3 categories; that is Class A, Class B and Class C. Class A comprises of ages 7 and 8; Class B is between ages 9 – 11 years and Class C is between 12 and 15 years old.

APPLICATIONS

Youngsters who wish to apply and be considered for membership of the Handsworth United Academy – West Africa should introduce themselves to the coaches at any of the Academy's training centers on any Saturday morning.

Coaches will assess applicants on the evidence of special talent and attributes such as balance and speed.

Successful applicants will be given the Handsworth United Academy Application & Registration form for completion.

OUR LONG TERM VISION is to set up a Football College.

The College

 The Football College, intended to be a permanent site of the Handsworth United Academy.

It will be a private, independent, residential college for boys and will combine education with sports and a special focus on football development.

The Football College proposed offering:

•             Full time residential and professional training for students aged 16yrs and above.

•             Part time weekend developmental training for students aged between 8-16years on Saturdays.

•             Holiday programs for ages 12-20.

The Football College is been proposed to be located in a very serene area of Accra, Ghana.
