WEDNESFIELD REDS 0 HANDSWORTH UNITED 10

Well the second game of the season for us after losing our first league match how were we going to fare??
Handsworth were a very strong side with plenty of skill. The Wednesfield team had a few new players and a few out of position. Rob ( the manager) started with a new formation and a few of the players were a little out of sorts. Some good work in the first 20 minutes held Handsworth at bay, then they just seemed to move into top gear and our midfield and defence couldn't cope with the on-slaught. Luke played as a sweeper this match and Reece went into the right wing position. Joey jones returned back into his striker position and teamed up with Reece to for a reasonable partnership. However the Handsworth Team were well drilled and they have only a few chances. First half saw Handsworth take 7 goals. Second half a few injuries took place and the team reverted back to the traditional 4-4-2 which held handsworth up a little. however the popped in 3 other goals to make it a 10 - 0 victory for them. Keiran worked hard in the midfield position and gained Man of the Match from the manager. Wednesfield will have to work on their game plan and their abilities more. However we now have a spring board to start the season well. COME ON YOU WEDNESFIELD !!!!!!

BILSTON LEAGUE CHARITY CUP FINAL

HANDWSWORTH UTD FC 3 WEDNESFIELD FC 6

The game began with Wednesfield FC dominating and applying pressure to Handsworth United in the early stages. Wednesfield managed to break the deadlock with a goal from a set peice from our left flank, however the defending of the cross was not entirely out of the defender's manual. A few minutes later Handsworth United showed character and forced Wednesfield on the back foot. That show of character manufactured an equaliser through excellent centre forward play by David Walker who out muscled the defender and beat the goalkeeper with a left foot strike at his near post. This came from an incredible kick by goalkeeper P-Boy. From that moment Wednesfield were rattled as Handsworth United continued to dominate and eventually central midfielder Franco, bursting forward, latched on to a ball over the top to controlled it beautifully and slotted it home to send Handsworth into a 2-1 lead. Wednesfield tried to re-assert themselves on the game and always looked dangerous from set peices, but Handsworth United defended with purpose and determination, and looked very dangerous on the counter attack. Another P-Boy special later and Handsworth United managed to carve out a third goal and it was David Walker again who got the better of the 'keeper in a 1 on 1 situation after easily brushing off the defender, to give HUFC a 3-1 lead at the break. It must be said that the refereeing decisions up to that point were dubious to say the least. The only thing we got from him was left bach Mo receiving the first yellow card of the game for his first mistimed tackle which was far from dangerous play. So with all that happening the lads done well to be going in at half time in the lead.

The second half began with two recognisable facts, Wednesfield Fc came out with an extra vigour and intent, and the refereeing decisions got worse. Wednesfield FC's  '12th man' aided them to dominate the early stages of the second half and it things got worse for Handsworth Utd when left back Mohammed Njie was sent off for a second bookable offence. Now HUFC had to see out the next 35 minutes with 10 men. Wednesfield then managed to get 2 goals in quick succession to level the score 3-3, and credit to the HUFC lads who were still playing counter attacking football. However HUFC had problems dealing with Wednesfield's set peices and 2 set peices in 5 minutes made the score 5-3 to Wednesfield FC. Handsworth united still kept attacking and were awarded a penatly when a Wednesfield defender misjudged the bounce of the ball and it struck his hand in the box. Quite Frankley we were all amazed when the ref blew for the penalty and if it was the 1st of April we would have thought he was only winding us up. But penalty it was and up stepped David Walker to take it and complete what would be a deserved hat-trick. However it was not to be as he struck it sweetly but wide of the 'keeper's left hand post. The energy and will drained from the HUFC players at that point as they became aware it was not to be their day. To add insult to injury, Wednesfield were awarded a corner with about 8-10 minutes to go and from the resulting cross stand-in left back Franco and hero of the day goalkeeper P-Boy were blatantly assaulted, (there is no better description for what happened), and both were left lying in the goal badly injured with the ball nestling in th net. To our astonishment the goal stood and the referee marched off to the centre circle for the restart before even showing some concern for the two injured young men. It is a testament of the referees attitude towards us when the opposing manager commented we, (HUFC), had a raw deal as the decisions against us were appalling.
Handsworth United staff would like to thank the under 21 squad for their efforts for reaching the cup final and their efforts on the day. We would also like to thank all those who turned out and travelled to Wolverhampton to support the lads. Well done.
